So WOY, our long-term Astra Sports Tourer, has now been replaced by Great White (from now on known as GW), a gorgeous but appreciably bigger Insignia Grand Sport SRi Nav 1.6 Turbo d (136). With a very long name it's also a very long car that takes a bit of getting used to, but it's worth the effort. With a long wheelbase and not stoopidly big alloys GW is a relaxed cruiser, with a compliant ride and uncanny ability to soak up the bumps. Indeed, a quick squirt in a Siggy with the 20" alloys (which do look amazing) confirmed that GW is by far the more refined machine.

In reality there's no such thing as a basic Insignia and GW has all the toys you could need, including a raft of safety devices, powerful dual-zone climate control and a thumping DAB hifi. The afore mentioned safety devices include lane-keep assist, traffic sign recognition and collision avoidance systems.

The one concern when changing from the Astra auto to this car with the same engine was that economy would be an issue but fears have been allayed - at just over 3000 miles GW is returning a sniff under 57mpg which is a more than acceptable result for what is a big car doing the daily commute between Buckley & Rhostyllen.

Pros: great economy, huge interior and boot, relaxed ride, looks spectacular

Cons: size takes a while to get used to!
